no matter と even if など

受験英語のように見えるが、実際のコミュニケーション(会話)でも意外とよく使われているのかなあ?

 

No matter how many people say so, you should not give it up.

 

No matter how much money he has [may have], I wouldn't marry him.

≒ However much money he has [may have], I wouldn't marry him.(こっちが堅い言い方)

 

倒置になるのとならないのがある?

 

上記のように、no matter how は単純に however に置換できる時もある。

できない時もあるようだ。

 

no matter what ⇒ whatever

とか、その他にも、no matter ~ と wh**ever の置換あり。

 

また、no matter の後に直接名詞が来る文章があったので、調べたところ、

no matter (what) the [one's] A       「いかなる A<事・物>であろうと」

という解説があった。

what が省略されている場合、no matter に続いて名詞が来ることになる。

No matter (what) the weather, he is out in his garden every day.

 

regardless of と意味的には同じ? ただし、the はいらない?

regardless of age, sex, or [x and] nationality

regardless of whether they are rich or poor

I'll buy the book, regardless of the price.
