構造がよく分からない英文に出合い思い悩むことがよくある。
その一つが、主語（と助動詞・動詞）が省略されている場合。
でも本当に「主語の省略なのか？」と悩みが続くことも少なくない。
以下、Doctor Who のクリスマス・スペシャルの一つ、「最後のクリスマス（Last Christmas）」の番組評から。
The one moment where Moffat genuinely got me was the first ending, with Clara, 62 years later. Hand on heart, I thought that was the end for the Doctor and Clara, and I seethed while watching that scene, pissed off at Moffat and cursing his name. Stunning that after nearly an hour of people waking up from dreams I fell for it.
* hand on heart 胸に手を当てて（？）
* be pissed off at 〜にむかついている
* fall for 〜にひっかかる、だまされる（受け身にしない）
最後の、「Stunning that after nearly an hour of people waking up from dreams I fell for it.」の文構造が分からない。これは一つの私の推理であるが、頭に来るべき「It was」が省略されているもの？
すなわち、「It was stunning that after nearly an hour of people waking up from dreams I fell for it.」であり、It は that 以下を指す形式主語であるという解釈。
（なお、people は 動名詞 waking up の意味上の主語。）
上記が合っているかどうかはともかく、よく分からないものに遭遇した時は、「主語が省略されているのではないか」と疑ってみるのが大事な気がする。
